In 2002, mutual visions of 5 young virtuoso wind players concerning chamber music as of the present and the future was aligned, and the woodwind quintet Carion was created. The dream of perfecting and developing the performance of wind chamber music is the very force that binds the musicians together. Throughout the years from the ensemble's birth, the members of Carion have sought a way to convert the traditions of conventional chamber music into an up-to-date and appealing experience of high cultural value. In this search Carion has developed a unique style where all concerts are performed from memory. The absence of music stands and notes gives the 5 musicians an unprecedented freedom to communicate both among themselves and with the audience. As a crucial part of this, Carion gives a visual interpretation of the inner architecture of the pieces through a musically based choreography. This adds extra dimensions to the concert experience and makes even the avantgarde part of the repertoire easily understandable. Carion is an elite ensemble with an outstanding integrety that combines progressive performance of fine classical masterpieces with an easy accessible approach which communicates with audiences of all ages. In a relatively short while Carion has worked themselves up to a very high level and is today considered one of the foremost ensembles in Denmark. In February 2004 Carion achieved great acknowledgement by receiving two prizes at the biggest chamber music competition in Denmark, the DR Competition. Following this competition Carion was contracted for a series of recordings for the Danish Radio. I january 2005 Carion was selected among 160 ensembles from 31 countries to one of the worlds biggest competitions in Osaka, Japan. In June 2005 the ensemble has been chosen to play at the award show of the prestigious Bolero Prize, and in november 2005 a gala concert was held in Copenhagen, featuring the collaboration between famous flutist Sir James Galway and Carion. Carion is also invited to play at the reknowned international Europa Festival Musicale in Munich. |
