DREAMLANDS BURN - CONTEMPORARY NORDIC ART SHOW AT MŰCSARNOK
2006. december 1. - Forrás: skandinavhaz.hu

Nordic Art Show 2006 is a comprehensive exhibition presenting the works of more than thirty Nordic artists, one of the most ambitious initiatives in the field, in the region, and during the past 100 years. The show opens on December 8 and can be visited until February 25 2007.

Jesper Just: Something to Love, 2005. 8:10 min, Super 16mm

The Winter Exhibition organised in Műcsarnok 1906 was the starting point, where contemporary artists from five states (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) introduced themselves with paintings, sculptures, graphics, etc. It was the last large representation of Nordic art in Hungary until now.

This centenary exhibition aims at presenting tendencies of contemporary art, at commenting the changes and questions that have been paramount in the art of the Nordic region during the past one and a half decade, while using the 1906 exhibition as a reference point.

Sara Jordenö: Lexicon production still (Szépművészeti Múzeum), C-print, size varies

The visual art of the Nordic countries has been in the focus of professional attention from the mid-nineties. Numerous exhibitions have been organised in distinguished institutes of contemporary art in Western Europe to map the scenes working with productive artists acknowledged internationally today. However, Central and Eastern Europe has not seen such presentations.

The ambition of Nordic Art Show 2006 is not only to be an exhibition among the many showing the tendency called "the Nordic Wave" in professional journals, but to present contemporary Northern European art in a new and modern interpretation and constellation to the Hungarian audience and to the international professional life.

Numerous parallel events will complement the exhibition. Beside the thematic film screenings selecting from the video and movie repertoire of Nordic art, there will be lectures and discussions, and the experimental art of sound and concerts will also be important.

The catalogue to be published for the exhibition will document all pieces presented, and will also contain the essays written by experts invited. Professionals will comment on the developments in Northern European art and culture, the changes during the past 15 years, and the phenomena of the Nordic scenes (institutional practices, trends, methods and theoretical proposals), which still exert an influence on international art.

The participants are, among others: Bodil Furu, Torbjørn Rødland, Vibeke Tandberg, Maia Urstad and Jan Winderen (Freq_out), Andrea Lange, Henriette Pedersen.

Curators: Molnár Edit és Páldi Lívia
