DANISH LITTLE MERMAID HEADING TO CHINA

Denmark's iconic statue of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" is being shipped to China for display in an exhibition.

The statue was taken down from its Copenhagen perch Thursday and left Denmark for the first time since its installation in 1913, USA Today reported Friday.

The statue is bound for Expo 2010 in Shanghai, where it will be on display at the Danish pavilion from May 1 through Oct. 31.

A video installation in Copenhagen will detail the statue's voyage.
