REYKJAVIK HOT DOGS BEST IN EUROPE
18 September 2006. - The Guardian

The legendary Baejarins Beztu Pylsur ("Towns Best Hot Dogs") hot dog stand in Reykjavik city centre is the second best snack stand in Europe according to a survey by UK newspaper The Guardian.

The judges came to the conclusion that a travelling porridge stand in Scotland provided the best snack. The hot dogs at Baejarins Beztu then came in second place, and a bakery in Athens selling a greek delicacy named Koulouri came in third.

The Guardian claims that Baejarins Beztu's secret is its remuladi (remoulade sauce) topping which makes the hot dogs so outstanding. But the hot dogs are perhaps more unique because they are made from Icelandic lamb rather than pork, as is more common in other countries. "I'm speechless!" says Gudrun Kristinsdottir, owner of the hot dog stand, after seeing the results of the survey, obviously very happy about them. "I'll have to try that Scottish porridge now" she adds.

She says the stand is very popular amongst locals and visitors alike. It stays open until 6am at weekends and there is almost always a queue outside. Bill Clinton famously had a hot dog here two years ago while visiting the capital. Other famous people such as rock band Metallica have also visited the stand. If you're visiting Reykjavik, make sure not to miss these famous town's best (or rather Europe's best) hot dogs and order one with "everything" on it - the stand is located on Tryggvagata near Reykjavik harbour.
